Patti’s is a professional actor, improviser, director, instructor and playwright.
Mix her professional experience with her infectious passion for improvisation, insightful improvisation technique, strong narrative skill and spirit of play and it is no wonder she is responsible for inspiring many hundreds of people to improvise.
Patti’s work is anchored in the teachings of Keith Johnstone. She was trained first hand by Keith at the Loose Moose Theatre Company. It was an exciting time as the LMTC performed and developed Keith’s formats, worked on his plays, performed traditional scripts, children’s theatre, sketch shows and more. The work was created under Keith’s direction and using the Johnstone technique as the driving artistic force. This extension and application of the work taught Patti not only the “how”, but the “why” in understanding Keith’s techniques and exercises.
As an improvisation performer and teacher, Patti Stiles has worked all around the world for numerous improvisation companies, theatre schools and in the corporate arena. She has been interviewed for two improvisation books, Something Like A Drug and The Improv Handbook, and her blog has been translated into French, Italian and Portuguese.
Patti is known for her strong narrative skills, and her playful, supporting nature. She ignites a spark of enthusiasm and joy in students, fellow performers and audiences wherever she appears. Her personal motto says it all: “Inspire!”
